The Bible We Read

A faithful, readable translation

The Berean Standard Bible, or BSB, is a modern translation rendered with care from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. It aims to be accurate to the words God gave and clear enough to read aloud at a family table. That is exactly what this study asks for. Every day we anchor the reading in the original languages, then hear the passage again in plain, trustworthy English.

Freely given, so we can quote it in full

The BSB is offered to the world in the public domain. That freedom lets us do something we care about deeply: print every verse in full. The day's passage appears complete on the page, and so does every cross-reference we cite. You never have to leave to look a verse up. A translation held under a tight license could not be shared this openly, verse by verse, day after day.

The name fits the practice

"Berean" recalls a small group in the book of Acts. When Paul brought them the gospel, they did not simply take his word for it.

"Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true." Acts 17:11 (BSB)

That daily searching of the Scriptures is the very habit this whole practice was built to form. We could not have asked for a more fitting name over the door.

One faithful voice, so Scripture stays at the center

No single translation is the last word. The Word itself is. Other faithful translations are gifts to the church, and we may offer more of them in time. For now we read one careful translation and quote it in full, so that Scripture, and not our commentary, remains the clearest voice on every page.
